Jean-Marie COTTET

Piano accompaniments for
Théo CHARLIER, 36 Études Transcendantes for Trumpet

[A companion volume to the Leduc publication - the trumpet parts are NOT included].

At the suggestion of Pierre THIBAUD, internationally known Trumpet soloist and Master teacher, Jean-Marie Cottet has composed piano accompaniments for all 36 of the CHARLIER Etudes, a revered staple of the trumpeter’s repertoire for 90 years.

Fifteen years in the making, Cottet’s remarkably varied and effective accompaniments bring these Charlier etudes onto the concert stage and can now become concert pieces for recitals and juries. Only such wonderfully inventive accompaniments as these can do justice to the Charlier collection.  (BQ-168)

Available in three formats:

1) Complete piano book for the iPad (374 pages)
2) Complete piano book in hard copy (comb binding, 320 pages, 9x12 size)
3) Individual etudes (8 to 10 pages each, 9x12 size)

If the etudes represent endurance challenges, two trumpeters can be assigned and phrases can be traded off.

Biography: As a pianist, Jean-Marie COTTET plays solo and chamber music internationally and is permanent soloist of “Ensemble COURT-CIRCUIT” in Paris. As composer, he won the first Prize of the “JOSSE international competition” (Variations for saxophone and piano) at age 18, and completed full composition studies at the Paris National Superior Conservatoire.

“When I discovered the CHARLIER Etudes, I was amazed at how much variety, invention, fantasy…and generosity, this music offers. To compose the piano parts, I only had to use Charlier’s genuine ideas, to keep full unity while giving importance to the piano part as well. Outside elements are rarely introduced, but sometimes bring a touch of humor. That is real chamber music, and both partners should look for utmost pleasure in performing it.” Jean-Marie COTTET, pianist and composer.
